Moving away from an era where housing former offenders in correctional facilities was considered a means of societal punishment, the Changwon Correctional Facility has rethought its approach by emphasizing a healthy environment and organic spatial design to positively and constructively impact its inmates. Various spaces within the facility are organically connected and arranged to enhance the effectiveness of various programs and maximize workforce efficiency. The correctional facility is designed to compactly house various facilities such as offices, apartments, hospitals, schools, factories, churches, vocational training centers, shops, and restaurants within a limited area. Simultaneously, each space is considered to be fully functional. These multifunctional spaces are interlinked to prioritize user convenience, ensuring organic connections based on the characteristics of each area, enabling them to fulfill their functional and symbolic requirements. Furthermore, the design takes into account the flexibility for future expansion to adapt to changes in future society and correctional policies.
