The purpose of this project is to efficiently distribute the national transportation and logistics system, which is concentrated on the Gyeongbu Expressway, by connecting the metropolitan area, Chungcheong, Jeolla, and Gyeongsang regions with an L-shaped inland expressway. It also aims to alleviate the traffic congestion resulting from the opening of the Pyeongtaek-Shihung Expressway, the development of the Hwanghae Economic Free Zone (Poseung and Hyundeok Districts), and the development of Pyeongtaek and Dangjin Ports.

In this regard, this project involved the design of the Buyeo to Cheongyang section (Section 6) of the privately-funded project known as the Western Inland Expressway. The project segment and scale include 2 segments and Section 6 with a total length of 8.7 kilometers, featuring a four-lane road (width of 23.4 meters). Major facilities planned for this project include 3 tunnels (total length of 1,478 meters), 11 bridges (total length of 789.9 meters), and 1 ecological tunnel (length of 60 meters).

Key tasks performed for this project included soil investigations, route surveys, environmental impact assessments, hydraulic analysis, blasting design, disaster impact assessments, and detailed design work.
