The Daejanggyeong Millennium Hall, located at the entrance of Haeinsa Temple, was erected to commemorate the 1,000th anniversary of the creation of the Tripitaka Koreana in 1011. The Tripitaka Koreana is the oldest existing wooden block print in Korea and the exhibition space is designed for the digitalization and plate-making materials of the UNESCO-registered Tripitaka Koreana. The exterior is a square-shaped block adjusted in the form of the Tripitaka Koreana, which embodies a millennium of wisdom. The sunlight pouring through the central atrium becomes a metaphor for illuminating the wisdom of a thousand years, and the transparent glass facade makes it appear as if the building is floating in mid-air, reminiscent of the Nirvana, representing the highest level of Buddhist education.
