Most campuses in Korea are located on hilly terrain. Unlike campuses in foreign countries that have grown together with urban organization as part of a long history, the campuses in Korea are a result of obtaining available land during the rapid industrialization and late-stage urban growth of developing countries. The main task of this project was to explore how the benefits enjoyed by urban campuses, such as the organic integration of indoor and outdoor spaces, activation of the horizontal plane, and convenience of movement, can be achieved even on sloping terrain. The master plan for Bucheon University's second campus focuses on providing open spaces with a sense of new placeness while maintaining the existing buildings and square courtyards. By pulling the sloped terrain adjacent to the campus into the campus and blurring the boundary between the campus and nature, the plan minimizes the disturbance of the natural terrain and provides environmentally friendly learning and outdoor spaces.
