The Garak Market, located in Songpa-gu, was the first public wholesale agricultural market in Korea built over 30 years ago. This modernization project aims to transform the Garakdong agricultural wholesale market, which has faced criticism and issues due to problems like traffic congestion, neglected logistics, odors, and an inefficient logistics system. To design a solution for the modernized market, a strategy was devised to imbue the wholesale and retail areas, two distinct commercial spaces, with appropriate characteristics and functions. The wholesale sector prioritizes the efficiency of logistics processing, while the retail sector focuses on creating an attractive commercial space where consumers can purchase fresh agricultural products at affordable prices to attract a large customer base. Furthermore, as part of a new approach to developing large-scale facilities covering an area of over 500,000 square meters, the project envisions contributing to the local community by providing recreational, sports, and cultural facilities on the rooftop floors of the facility, serving as social infrastructure that benefits the local community.
